ABSTRACT

This project involves the comprehensive renovation of a historic villa dating from the early 1900s, located in the Italian Alpine region. The program includes the subdivision of the existing structure into two distinct residential units, each designed to function independently while preserving the architectural integrity of the original building.

In accordance with the client’s brief, the design approach prioritizes full respect for the landscape context and seamless integration into the Alpine architectural heritage. The aesthetic strategy balances classical proportions with a contemporary sensibility, reinterpreting traditional Alpine construction principles through a modern lens.

Materiality plays a fundamental role in the project’s conceptual and tectonic expression. The extensive use of locally sourced stone and regional timber not only grounds the architecture in its geographical context but also enhances its timeless quality. These natural materials, employed with contemporary detailing, lend authenticity, warmth, and textural richness to both the exterior envelope and the interior spaces.

The result is a dialogue between past and present—a discreet yet transformative intervention that honors the legacy of Alpine building traditions while responding to the demands of modern living.
