ABSTRACT

The Langham, Tokyo presents a twisting, tree-like form that rises from the parkland of Roppongi. The geometry is not merely sculptural—it embodies Kuma's philosophy of dissolving boundaries between architecture and nature, allowing the building to grow from its site rather than stand apart.

A layered façade of curtain walls and wood-grain aluminum blades filters light and blurs the edge between inside and out. At ground level, planted green walls root the tower in the landscape, extending the adjacent greenery into the building’s base. The result is a high-rise that reads not as an isolated object, but as a vertical extension of the natural environment—quiet, textured, and deeply connected to place.
