ABSTRACT
This project consists of the design and construction of a single-family villa located on the hills of Solto Collina, overlooking Lake Iseo, developed in close accordance with the client’s request to employ CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) as the primary construction system.
The villa is conceived as a model of environmental sustainability, with the material selection playing a central role in the design approach. The exclusive use of CLT ensures not only structural efficiency and speed of assembly, but also a significant reduction in embodied carbon, contributing to a lighter ecological footprint throughout the building’s life cycle.
The architectural expression reflects this ethic of simplicity and authenticity, with timber surfaces left exposed where appropriate and natural, non-toxic finishes employed throughout.
The privileged hillside position offers an exceptional panoramic outlook over Mont’Isola, Europe’s largest lake island. The building’s orientation and fenestration are carefully calibrated to capture the changing qualities of natural light, framing both sunrise and sunset as immersive daily events.
Terraces, loggias, and large glazed openings dissolve the threshold between interior and landscape, inviting the surrounding nature into the domestic sphere. The result is a residence where well-being, environmental consciousness, and sensory connection to place converge in a quiet, contemporary alpine language.
